The Sky Is The Limit – Cécile Serilas

First day of trek, Respicius came to the hotel to pick me up early in the morning at 8 am with the porters. I climbed in the minibus and we were gone for Umbwe Gate, the entry of the park for the umbwe route. On our way we could see Kilimandjaro.

While the porters were preparing their packs, Respicius was checking my day pack. He took my camera, and actually he did all the pictures. Here is a picture of everybody at the gate.

That day it was an 11 km walk that we had to do to Umbwe Cave. I am telling you I didn’t really know what that would represent until that day. We stopped along the way for lunch. While I was walking I saw a table in the middle of the forest and actually it was for us.

At lunch we were approximately half way of our journez but I was already feeling tired. And after the other 4-5 hours of walk of the afternoon I was more than happy to get to Umbwe Cave where the camp was already settled. I was so tired that I went to my tent to lie down before dinner. My tent is the orange one. That night would be my first night in a tent. I can’t say it was incomforatble but it still isn’t as comfortable as a bed.
